Green Hummer Project

We built the world’s first non-polluting SUV—years before Tesla.

Green Hummer Project, as it looked at the time

The Green Hummer Project was a fun art project that explored the idea of creating an environmentally friendly and socially responsible vehicle.

My friend Stephen Horcha had an idea: build an SUV that was healthy, friendly, non-polluting, simple, inexpensive, fun, and socially responsible. How was that possible? By making it a bike.

I was part of the original crew that helped build the Green Hummer and ride it around town, and I also designed the project’s logo and website.

In June 2004, we rode the Green Hummer during a G8 protest in Savannah, and ended up on CNN.com.

Stephen now runs Haley Tricycles.
