Eventful

An event search engine I helped launch, then redesigned and rebranded.

Eventful was an event search engine with smart search tools, an open API, and early support for microformats like hCard and hCalendar.

As a consultant, I helped launch the original EVDB website, the precursor to Eventful, for PCForum 2005. Then, as an employee, I led a complete redesign and rebranding of EVDB as Eventful, including its logo.

The logo was lowercase Arial Rounded, tightened up, with one word in blue and one in green. It turned up on lists of Web 2.0 logos, including FontShop’s roundup of the style. In November 2006, Amazon launched Askville with a logo that matched it point for point. I wrote a blog post about the resemblance, and Eventful’s founder emailed Amazon. Less than 24 hours later, Askville had a new logo.
